Spring Has Sprung: Why This One is Special

Ask anyone at Spring Tool Solutions what their favorite season is and they’ll likely quip “Spring!” simply because they can’t resist a good pun. But seriously, we’re all particularly excited about spring this year for two reasons:

For one, this is our first spring season as Spring Tool Solutions (STS). You may recall that STS formed just last September when our legacy business, North American Spring Tool, merged with Spring Manufacturer’s Supply Company. Since then, we’ve been busy consolidating our technological infrastructures, integrating our operations, and streamlining our processes to eliminate redundancies. With most of the logistics related to the merger behind us, we’re poised to spring forward (pun intended) with new efficiencies.

Secondly, the spring 2024 issue of Springs magazine features our president, Alan Ortner. You’ll find this article on page 37 of the digital issue and on page 35 of the printed copy. And if this nod to our state isn’t enough, Connecticut’s Chief Manufacturing Officer, Paul Lavoie, is also featured in this issue (pages 44 & 42, respectively).

When Springs magazine asked Ortner about current industry trends and their impact on the spring industry, he replied that manufacturers are struggling to find skilled labor. “This is driving some customers to look for more precise tooling because their newer employees lack the ‘magic’ of previous generations of coilers who just knew how to make wire forms and springs,” Ortner said. Fortunately, STS is well equipped to provide the ultra-precise tooling they need.

In response to Springs’ request to share a recent challenge, Ortner explained how STS was able to help a customer drastically reduce their grinding time by providing a ready-to-use arbor. Helping customers expedite production is really at the core of all we do, so it truly makes us happy when we succeed.

Also in Springs Magazine, Connecticut’s Chief Manufacturing Officer Paul Lavoie says the state will invest $15M a year through its Manufacturing Innovation Fund for programs designed to support and grow Connecticut’s manufacturing industry. He says he expects 2024 to be the year that manufacturing becomes the number one sector and driver of Connecticut’s economy, which has historically been driven by the financial and insurance services.

“Over the last couple of years, thousands of manufacturing jobs have been added in Connecticut, and I am determined to keep this momentum going,” Lavoie said. At STS, we share Lavoie’s optimism for the advancement of manufacturing in our state, and we’re well equipped to contribute to its progress.

So, this spring is special because we’re enjoying this warmer, sunnier season as an enhanced company with legitimate reasons to be optimistic about the future. We hope you’re feeling optimistic, too.
